  • Rancher Mike Hanley, of Owyhee, told a newspaper in Boston that he will have to sell half his cattle after losing permission last week to graze them on a piece of public land because of the encroaching wilderness. It’s all part of the “parceling of the wilderness” we call Idaho.
On the other hand, Sens. Larry Craig and Mike Crapo, received kudos for obstructing a bipartisan proposal to create a wilderness area in Idaho's magnificent White Cloud Mountains.
  • A Seattle company has picked Montpelier for a $7 million plant where workers will build environmentally friendly modular motels.
Executives from Triad Resorts say they will begin construction of the new plant in Montpelier in the next 90 days, with operations expected to begin next March. The company expects to hire about 150 workers.
