Bankruptcy filings rise 22 percent in quarter

Bankruptcy filings in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court’s Idaho District increased by 22.6 percent in the second quarter, from a year earlier. The district includes Boise, Coeur d’Alene, Moscow, Pocatello and Twin Falls. The district received 1,241 filings in the April-June quarter, up from 1,012 in the same quarter of 2007.

For the 12 months ended June 30, filings increased by 20 percent to 4,071. The total included 3,276 Chapter 7 liquidations, 26 Chapter 11 reorganizations, 7 Chapter 12 farm filings and 762 Chapter 13 liquidations.

For the one-year period ended June 30, 2007, the 3,395 filings included 2,673 Chapter 7s, 10 Chapter 11s, 10 Chapter 12s and 702 Chapter 13s.

  1. As bankruptcy begins it will be harder to sell your largets asset, your house. Look up the Idaho home stead act. It will allow you to keep up to $75,000 of the equity in your home.
