Discount retailer Bi-Mart Corp. will anchor a commercial development planned on the south side of Idaho 52 west of Washington Street in Emmett. Bi-Mart aims to start site work by late this year, depending on permit approval, and open the 32,000-square-foot store by next summer, company spokesman Don Leber said. The stores typically cost about $1.5 million depending on site work needed, he said. The stores employ 55 to 65, including three senior managers and five or six area coordinators.

In Emmett, Bi-Mart bought about 15 acres and plans to occupy about 3 acres, said Lew Goldman of the Colliers International real estate brokerage in Boise. He represented Bi-Mart in the sale. Bi-Mart plans to market the remaining 12 acres, through Colliers, to other commercial users, he said.

John Evans of Evans Realty, Emmett, represented the seller in the transaction. Commercial development activity continues in Emmett in response to ongoing demand from residents, he said.

Employee-owned Bi-Mart operates 67 stores including units in Ontario, Ore., and Weiser, Idaho.

  1. Being from Oregon, I love Bi-Mart! Its the best...but they need to build some stores in Boise as Emmett might be a long commute :)
